Cercopithecine herpesvirus 12 CeHV12 A

species in the genus Lymphocryptovirus. Isolated from cell lines established from splenic lymphocytes of a baboon, Papio hamadryas, by co-cultivation with X-irradiated marmoset or baboon lym-phoblastoid cell cultures. The baboon had been injected with blood from another baboon which had been injected with human blood and had a lymphoma. The cell lines have B lymphocyte characteristics and carry a virus related to, but not identical with, Epstein-Barr virus as demonstrated by cross-reactivity of viral capsid antigens, but only partial (40%) DNA homology. It can transform other non-human primate cells in vitro but its relationship to disease in the baboon is uncertain.

Synonyms: baboon herpesvirus; baboon lymphotropic herpesvirus; herpesvirus papio; papio Epstein-Barr herpesvirus.
