chinook salmon reovirus (DRCRV, GRCV, LBSV, YRC, ICRV) Serotypes of Aquareovirus A in the genus Aquareovirus. Isolated from adult Coho salmon, Oncorhynchus kisutch, and chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, in Oregon, USA. Distinct antigenically from chum salmon reovirus. Synonym: Sacramento River chinook salmon disease virus.

chlamydia A group of obligate intracellu-lar microorganisms, once thought to be viruses, but now classified as bacteria. They are unlike true viruses in several important respects:

(1) they multiply by binary fission;

(2) they have cell walls like bacteria, with muramic acid-containing mucopep-tides;

(3) they have a number of enzymes which are metabolically active;

(4) they possess both DNA and RNA, as do bacteria;

(5) unlike viruses, they possess ribo-somes;

(6) growth can be inhibited by a number of antibacterial agents, including tetra-cyclines, chloramphenicol, rifampicin and sulfonamides.
