FA virus A strain of mouse poliovirus.

Fab fragment The antigen-binding fragment of the immunoglobulin molecule that is obtained following treatment with papain. A slightly larger fragment (Fab') is obtained following treatment with pepsin followed by reduction. Each of these fragments consists of an intact light chain attached by a disulfide bond to the Fd fragment of one heavy chain. If the immunoglobulin is treated with pepsin without subsequent reduction, the fragment obtained is a dimer of two Fab' fragments, containing both antigen-binding sites, and is termed the F(ab')2 fragment.
