progressive multifocal leukoencephalopa-thy (PML) PML is a rare, slowly progressive, fatal and non-inflammatory demyelinating disease of the human CNS caused by reactivation of latent JC poly-omavirus infection in patients with immunodeficiency, usually due to disease (e.g. AIDS) or immunosuppressive therapy. progressive pneumonia of sheep A chronic pulmonary disease in sheep, which affects older ewes and consists of slowly progressive loss of weight and dysphagia over a period of 3-12 months. There is nodular proliferation of lymphocytes in the lungs and thickening of interalveolar septa. First reported to affect sheep in Montana, USA in 1923. Caused by Visna/maedi virus. Synonyms: progressive interstitial pneumonia virus; visna-maedi.
