Rio Grande cichlid virus Rgrcv An

unassigned virus in the family Rhabdoviridae.

Rio Grande virus (RGV) A tentative species in the genus Phlebovirus, belonging to the sandfly fever virus serogroup. Isolated from pack rats, Neotoma micropus, in Texas, USA. On injection into suckling mice causes death in 5-6 days. Replicates in Vero cells with CPE. Serological surveys suggest the pack rat is the principal natural host. Has not been isolated from hematophagous insects, so the vector is uncertain. Levels of viremia are low in experimentally infected pack rats, so mode of transmission is uncertain. Not reported to cause disease in humans.

Rio Mamore virus (RIOMV) A species in the genus Hantavirus identified in Bolivia in rodents, Oligoryzomys microtis, by nucleotide sequence analysis of kidney-derived RNA. Closest North American relative appears to be Bayou virus.

Rio Segundo virus (RIOSV) A species in the genus Hantavirus, isolated from a Costa Rican harvest mouse, Reithrodontomys mexicanus. Not known to cause disease in humans.

R-loop mapping A technique for mapping single-stranded RNA by hybridization to the complementary strand of partially denatured double-stranded DNA. The formation of the RNA-DNA hybrid displaces the opposite DNA strand as a loop which can be visualized under the electron microscope.

RM-97 virus A strain of El Moro Canyon virus, in the genus Hantavirus.

RML 105355 virus (RMLV) A strain of Uukuniemi virus in the genus Phlebovirus. Transmitted by ticks.
