Sororoca virus Sorv A strain of

Wyeomyia virus in the genus Bunyavirus, belonging to the Bunyamwera serogroup. Isolated from mosquitoes of Sabethini sp in Para, Brazil. Not reported to cause disease in humans.

Sotkamo virus A strain of Puumula virus isolated from the rodents, Clethrionomys glareolus and Clethrionomys rufocanus, in Finland.

Southampton virus (SHV) A serotype of Norwalk virus, in the genus 'Norwalk-like viruses'. Isolated from a family outbreak of gastroenteritis in Southampton, UK in 1991.

Southern blotting Technique invented by Professor EM Southern which involves transfer of denatured single-stranded DNA fragments separated on an agarose gel to a nitrocellulose filter which is then analyzed by hybridization to radioactive or biotinylated DNA or RNA probes. Later forms of blotting for RNA and protein were named Northern and Western, respectively, to distinguish them from the original technique.

South River virus (SORV) A strain of California encephalitis virus in the genus Bunyavirus, belonging to the California serogroup. A variety of Jamestown Canyon virus. Isolated from mosquitoes, Anopheles crucians. Not reported to cause disease in humans.

Sp 104 virus A strain of Murine leukemia virus. A B-tropic virus, weakly oncogenic but efficient at stimulating the production of antinuclear antibodies in mice. Isolated from an established cell line derived from a plasmacytoma in a mouse. This animal had been injected when newborn with a cell-free filtrate from the spleen of a dog with systemic lupus erythematosus. The virus shared a cross-reacting antigen with the surface of blood lymphocytes of human or canine patients with systemic lupus erythemato-sus.
