Urucuri virus (URUV) A tentative species in the genus Phlebovirus, belonging to the sandfly fever virus serogroup. Isolated in suckling mice from the blood of an apparently normal male rodent, Proechimys guyannensis, found in Utinga Forest, Brazil. Antibodies were found in the sera of members of this species in Para and Amapa, Brazil. Not reported to cause disease in humans.

Uruma virus A strain of Mayaro virus. Caused an outbreak of fever and headache in Bolivia.

Usutu virus (USUV) A species in the genus Flavivirus, belonging to the Japanese encephalitis virus group. Isolated from mosquitoes of Culex, Mansonia and Aedes sp, also birds, in S Africa, Uganda, Cameroon, Congo, Central African Republic and Nigeria. Not reported to cause disease in humans.

Utinga virus (UTIV) A strain of Oropouche virus in the genus Bunyavirus, belonging to the Simbu serogroup. Isolated from the three-toed sloth, Bradypus tridactylus, in Para, Brazil. Not associated with disease in humans.

Utive virus (UVV) A strain of Oropouche virus in the genus Bunyavirus, belonging to the Simbu serogroup. Isolated from a three-toed sloth, Bradypus tridactylus. Not associated with disease in humans.

Uukuniemi virus (UUKV) A species in the genus Phlebovirus. First member of the Uukuniemi virus serogroup. Isolated from a rodent, Apodemus flavicollis, passerine birds, a thrush, Turdus merula, and Ixodes sp in Finland, the former Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, the former USSR, Lithuania and Oregon, USA. Antibodies are found in humans but there is no evidence that the virus causes disease.
