These include chronic enteral administration of unpalatable medications or diets as well as gastric decompression in patients with gastroparesis, abdominal/peritoneal carcinomatosis, or malignant intestinal obstruction. PEG has also been used for GI diversion in radiation enteritis and enterocutaneous fistulas. other novel uses include nonsurgical therapy for "gas-bloat syndrome" after Nissen-fundoplication, facilitated dilation, and stent-ing of obstructing esophageal neoplasms, and fixation of the stomach in patients with recurrent gastric volvulus.
