Postprocedure

After esophageal, gastric and duodenal EMR, the patient should fast for 24 hours. Liquids are then allowed for 5 days before a normal diet is resumed. In patients who undergo extended esophageal EMR, fasting should be prolonged for 48 hours and the liquid diet for at least 1 week. All patients receive a double dose of a proton pump inhibitor per day orally. Intravenous antibiotics are only administered to patients with pain and fever. After colonic EMR (> 30 mm), liquids are given by mouth 24 hours after the procedure. Patients are discharged from the hospital 24 hours after the EMR. Antibiotics, abdominal plain radiography, and 48 hours fasting are advised for patients with abdominal pain due to postcoagulation syndrome.
