Treatment

Our fundamental treatment goal for patients with fecal incontinence is to control their symptoms. For a significant proportion of patients, an underlying medical problem, such as gastrointestinal infection, first led to diarrhea and then to fecal incontinence; their symptoms generally resolve with medical correction of the underlying problem and control of diarrhea. However, for most of our referred patients, treatment of underlying medical disorders has already failed, so interventional therapy must be considered. Treatment options range from noninvasive frontline therapy to inter-ventional salvage procedures, alone, combined, or repeated.
