Coccal nailfold angiomatosis

A recently described reactive angiomatous lesion, coccal nail-fold angiomatosis, clinically and histologically resembles pyogenic granuloma. This lesion was observed in patients who had sustained severe trauma proximal to the digits involved, usually a fracture at the level of the wrist which had been treated with a splint; it was therefore also suggested to be a particular form of sympathetic reflex dystrophy. The tumours grow out from under the proximal nail fold, are erosive, and contain vascular proliferations in an oedematous stroma with many plasma cells and lymphocytes. The surface may be covered with cocci.
