Figure 339

Causes of death in patients with primary systemic amyloidosis in an 11-year study at the Mayo Clinic. Of the 285 patients who died, death was attributed to cardiac involvement from congestive heart failure or arrhythmias in 48%. The actual percentage of cardiac-related deaths was probably higher because some patients whose death was attributed to primary amyloidosis almost certainly had terminal cardiac arrhythmia.
