Presenting features of secondary amyloidosis. Proteinuria is the most frequent laboratory finding in patients with secondary amy-loidosis. Involvement of the gastrointestinal tract as manifested by diarrhea, obstipation, or malabsorption occurred in one fifth of our patients. Treatment of secondary amyloidosis depends on the underlying disease. Familial Mediterranean fever frequently is associated with secondary amyloidosis unless the patient is treated with colchicine.
