Moderately selective peripheral ( 1-adrenergic antagonists. Phenoxybenzamine is the only drug in its class. Absorption is variable and incomplete (20% to 30%). Peak blockade occurs in 3 to 4 hours. Its plasma half-life is 24 hours. The duration of action is approximately 3 to 4 days. Phenoxybenzamine is primarily used in the management of preoperative or inoperative pheochromocytoma. Efficacy is dependent on the degree of underlying excessive a-adrenergic vascular tone [6,9].
