Introduction

A good understanding of the reproductive anatomy and control mechanisms of stallion reproduction is an essential prerequisite for studying the applied aspects of semen collection, evaluation and storage. Figure 3.1 shows the reproductive system of the stallion after slaughter and dissection. All the major structures are evident, with the exclusion of the accessory glands and associated structures (these are too well embedded within the body cavity to allow easy removal and examination). Figure 3.2 provides an illustration of the reproductive system given in Fig. 3.1, and Fig. 3.3 illustrates the entire reproductive system as it would appear in situ.
